In Darkness or at Night

I’ll write a tide across your mind to wash the husks he left behind that when you walk there next you’ll find the pink-lipped shells of night

I’ll rise and purge the skies that lust has bruised in shades of grey and rust and wipe away the clouds that crust the starlight from your night

I’ll stand and fight with my long arm a champion against the harm of fears too great to face with calm in darkness or at night

I want to pole beneath your skin a boatman with a broken grin who spills his vessel’s light within to hold the easy night

and over all your aching storm protecting from unwanted dawns a touchstone for the fever forms my body lies at night
